Lethbridge Polytechnic celebrates Black History Month through February with events and activities to engage, educate and celebrate. This is an opportunity to gain knowledge of Canada’s Black History, the diversity of the Black community at Lethbridge Polytechnic and around the world, and to honor the achievements and contributions of Black Canadians to Canada and the world.

February 2025 Black History Month activities:
Tuesday, February 4: Black History Month Opening Celebration
o Time: 10 to noon
o Location: Centre Core
o Description: Start the month-long celebration with speeches and information about upcoming events
Join us as we kick off Black History Month in Centre Core with our Opening Celebration! Listen to some incredible speakers talk about the importance of Black History Month, learn about Afro-Caribbean countries with our featured world map, then test your knowledge with questions about Black History in Canada! And be sure to check out the vibrant black artist display in the Buchanan Library, and unleash your creativity by adding your touch to our BIG coloring page, conveniently placed in Centre Core. Let's come together to celebrate!
Wednesday, February 5 : Wellness Wednesday
o Time: 9 to 10:30 a.m.
o Location: Centre Core
o Description: Stop by the Kiosk in Centre Core for a Wellness Wednesday breakfast with an African twist! Enjoy a scrambler with sweet potatoes, bell peppers, tomatoes and onions, seasoned with African spices. While your taste buds enjoy a nutritious breakfast, you can feast your mind on all the activities coming up in February for Black History Month. Breakfast is served starting at 9 a.m. while supplies last.
Friday, February 7: Movie Night
o Time: 5:30 p.m.
o Location: Lethbridge Public Library, Crossings Branch
o Description: Lethbridge Polytechnic is excited to partner with the Lethbridge Public Library and Chinook High School to bring three movie nights to the Lethbridge community. The movie screenings will be held at the Lethbridge Public Library Crossings Branch (Friends Place) and each week a different group will pick the movie. Join us for an evening (or three!) of free, fun film watching. All ages are welcome. Popcorn and beverages will be provided.
Black History Month Meal Kit:

o Time: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
o Location: Centre Core
o Description: Test your knowledge (or learn something new) as you play Black History Month Jeopardy!
Tuesday, February 25 : Ibrahim Turay presentation

E.C. Fredericks Theatre (CE1365)
o Description: Dr. Ibrahim Turay gathered stories from self-identified Black youth regarding their interactions with police in Calgary, Lethbridge, Brooks, and Medicine Hat between 2019 and 2023 for his PhD dissertation. He will present his findings to the Polytechnic and Lethbridge communities on February 25, 2025, as part of the Polytechnic's Black History Month celebrations.

Thursday, February 27: Cultural Fashion Show
o Time: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
o Location: The Cave (CE1300)
o Description: Join us for a showcase of stunning colors and designs inspired by a rich heritage and influence of Black fashion. Our mission is to represent students from all countries on campus and provide everyone with the chance to displays their culture!
On the same day, everyone on campus is encouraged to participate in cultural dress up day to continue the conversation.
Thursday, February 27: Dance Party
o Time: 8 p.m.
o Location: The Cave (CE1300)

Description: To complete the celebration LPSA is hosting a dance party in the Cave.
