JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced General Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Lethbridge Polytechnic Student Association
(LPSA). The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of Post-Secondary education market in Alberta, business acumen and commitment to student success and engagement. The successful candidate will have proven leadership, negotiation and communication skills and the proven ability to work with a diverse team and annually elected executives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelor’s degree in business administration/management or related field
- Proficiency in Office 365/Windows Environment -Excel focus.
- Minimum 3 years of Managerial experience preferably in the post-secondary market or related.
- Understanding of the Alberta Post-Secondary Learning Act, and other relevant legislation
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Ability to adapt and strive in a diverse and evolving environment.
DUTIES:
Financial Management
- Develop and Prepare yearly budget
- Preparation of Invoice Payments and monthly Credit card reconciliation
- Conduct economic and statistical analyses to assess operational performance.
- Oversee the financial health and coverage of the Student Health and Dental Plan to ensure it meets student needs.
- Analysis and recommendation for Capital expenses and long term projects
- Prepare yearend Financial statements for annual audit
- Prepare and approve all Journal entries
- Invoice and collects all accounts receivable
- Process all Deposits, approve Cash Deposits, reconcile Petty cash
Human Resources
- Analyze/Develop Positions and Descriptions
- Maintain employee Benefit package
- Manages staff concerns, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions
- Develop and maintain salary grid and employment contracts
- Liaise with departments of Lethbridge Polytechnic such as Finance and Human Resources.
- Conduct Performance Reviews
Operational Management
- Policy/Procedure Enforcement, Research and Development
- Advise the Student Executive Council on operational matters.
- Develop and review constitution, by-laws and standing rules
- Negotiate and review contracts.
- Interpret and prepare briefs and presentations on political issues affecting the student body
- Coordinate with legal counsel and external stakeholders when necessary
- Manage, review and negotiate liability Insurance programs
- Identify organizational liabilities and propose solutions to mitigate risks.
- Serve as the liaison between LPSA and Information Technology, Finance, Facilities, and other departments.
- Oversee risk management and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
Other duties
- Attend association and College Events and activities as needed.
- Attend council meetings/conferences/retreats and communicate with other SA/SU's when necessary
- Attend weekly Student Executive Council meetings
- Serve on Operational and Advisory Committees
- Serve as Ex-Officio at Student Council meetings
- Research and Purchasing LPSA Equipment
- Provide customer service and assist with point-of-sale and general inquiries when needed.
AUTHORITY AND REPORTING:
- Reports Directly to the Student Executive Council
- Authority to Negotiate and enter into long-term service agreements on behalf of the
LPSA with input from Student Executive Council
- Authority to Prepare Invoice Payments and monthly Credit card reconciliation for
Approval at Weekly Finance Committee
- Authority to research and implement operational procedures in accordance to the LPSA Bylaws and Policies
- Authority to create yearly budget with input from Student Executive Council
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
$75,000 - $85,000 per annum depending on experience.
